14th March

Oranje deposited her final load this morning and has departed for Qatar.  The sinker pipe should be filled with air today, and towed back to Holland tomorrow (inspections & weather permitting)

The shoreline pipe sections will start leaving by road on Monday lunchtime, and heavy plant will leave once the beach has been shaped.

The site should be cleared by next Thursday, 20th March (in time for the Easter holidays)

Pumping and levelling sand, 13th March

13th March

Load 6 was pumped ashore today at 0820 hrs between groynes 29 and 28; load 7 is scheduled for 1800 hrs and the final load at 1600 hrs tomorrow, the 14th.

The Oranje will then leave Bournemouth and head straight for the Qatar in the Middle East to undertake another replenishment project there.

Another hopper load of sand is discharged at the beach (groyne 28)

12th March

The Oranje arrived at Bournemouth with a full hopper (load 5) at 2200 hrs.

11th March

Further weather-related delays. The Oranje has returned to Rotterdam for bunkering (refuelling) and is expected back tomorrow, Wednesday, at about 1500 hrs.

On her return she will deliver three or four more loads to complete BIS4.3.

10th March

Replenishment work is delayed by the severe gales affecting the south west, coupled with a very high tide.

The dredger pumps ashore via the sinkerline; dozers wait to level the beach material that's delivered

9th March

Load 3 delivered to the beach at 0800 hrs, Load 4 at 1800hrs.

The dredger Oranje, attended by a Multicat (a shallow draft coastal tug) for handling and connecting the floating pipeline to the hopper

8th March

Load 1 was delivered to the beach at 1100 hrs, Load 2 at 2200 hrs.

7th March

The floating pipeline has arrived from Holland and is connected.  The dredger set sail from Rotterdam today and is due to pump the first load of beach material tomorrow, Saturday, at 8:00am.

50mph winds are forecast for Sunday, which would make it dangerous for work to continue so the project is likely to be delayed.

Sand mound & sinkerline awaiting arrival of the Oranje and the first load of beach material

6th March

The beach crew have created a sand mound, and have raised the end of the sinker pipe, all in preparation for the arrival of the first load, now due on Saturday morning (if the weather holds out for the 150m floating pipe and its connection).

An area from the seawall to the sea has been fenced, preventing public access to the working area, and additional signs will be erected advising dog walkers to put their dogs on leads to keep them from danger.

5th March

The section of floating pipeline has been delayed by bad weather.  It left Holland this morning and is due to arrive at Bournemouth tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.

Sand moving and beach levelling equipment on site

29th February

The floating section for the seaward end of the sinkerline left Holland and, weather permitting, will be arriving at Bournemouth on Sunday 2nd March. This pipe is 150m long, and connects the sinkerline to the dredger,

The dredger Oranje is now due during the afternoon of Monday 3rd March.  It is expected to collect sand from the Isle of Wight en route, and arrive at Bournemouth ready to discharge.

Sections of pipeline delivered to the beach, 27th February

27th February

Sections of land pipeline arrived overland from Holland.

The Ovenden beach crew are setting up site with a temporary office and sand-moving equipment.

Bringing the sinkerline ashore, 18th February

18th February 2008

09:00 the sinkerline arrives from Holland.  It is brought ashore at Portman Ravine and the filling air is let out, allowing the pipe to sink to the sea bed.  The seaward end is secured, awaiting the arrival of the Oranje.
